Tackling Poverty in Dumfries and Galloway Conference

Monday 16 October 2017

10.00am – 4.00pm, Easterbrook Hall, Dumfries

Do you want to join the fight against Poverty in our Region?

Challenge Poverty week is a national campaign co-ordinated by the Poverty Alliance to raise awareness of issues surrounding poverty.  As part of our contribution, Dumfries and Galloway Council have agreed to organise a Tackling Poverty Conference.

The focus of this informative free event will be;

  • Widening awareness of the various causes of poverty and how it impacts individuals and families;

  • To get the right people/organisations together to positively deal with poverty; and

  • To provide inspirational examples of how, with the right innovation/commitment, people in poverty can have their lives changed for the better.

    This, interactive Conference will include presentations on both national and regional contexts and will feature the Joseph Rowntree Foundation highlighting Inspiring Social Change to Solve Poverty in the UK and Challenging Homelessness by the Scotland Housing Network plus others which give inspirational life changing examples of people who have successfully tackled poverty.

    Five Participatory Workshops are also on offer to all delegates which cover a range of subjects including:

  • Developing Successful Participation and Engagement

  • Tackling Fuel Poverty

  • Employability and Inclusive Growth

  • Developing the D & G Tackling Poverty Forum

  • Homelessness Improvement Programme

In addition to the above, a Tackling Poverty Market Place which will feature a range of organisations who are challenging poverty in all of it’s forms will be on show for all delegates to visit. This will provide the opportunity to develop partnership opportunities, highlighting successful projects and also share best practice.

Come and join us in our fight against poverty. We want to extend an invitation to all organisations and individuals who have an interest in challenging poverty in all of its forms.

Booking via an Event Brite Link will be available shortly from our colleagues in Third Sector Dumfries and Galloway, but if you wish to book in advance, please e-mail me on the below link & we will reserve a place for you.
