Employability Skills

A range of partners work with schools to help young people develop and improve employability skills. Skills Development Scotland, Community Learning and Development, Employability and Skills Service, Further Education and Employers can all provide support and opportunities.

An Employability Skills Framework, developed with employers outlines the key employability skills required:

A positive attitude, the ability to self-manage, team working skills,  business and customer awareness, the ability to think creatively and problem solve,  good interpersonal skills,  the ability to apply numeracy, communication and information communication technology skills,  leadership and entrepreneurial potential.

Support could include:

  • 121 support

  • group work sessions

  • employer mentoring

  • career management skills

  • wider achievement programmes
